G'day and welcome to my simple little blog 'Walking by the Water'
Within this blog I would love for you to take a virtual walk with me, not just by one River but the many rivers, lakes, oceans that I find on my walking journeys around our beautiful Australia!
I will endevour to give you the name of the Rivers and places that I visit but names are not always available as I have a tendancy as I'm driving along to see a slice of water and pull over. Grab the Camera and take off !!!
If you have done some hiking in Australia I sure would love to hear from you please lets share this wonderful country with the World :)
Walking by the Water
One of my favorite activities is walking by water be it a River, Lake, Ocean. It does not matter as long as there is water. I hope that you enjoy my walks as much as I do!
Tambo River Flood Plains
After the recent heavy rains the flood plains of the Tambo River have been off-limits and all gates have been securely chained and no vehicles allowed access!
However that is in the past and we can now resume our walking :)
I decided to see what wild life was around and found a marvelous range of birds!
The Black Swans were in abundance and also the Black Winged Stilts were there as well as the Wedge Tailed Eagles.
The good old Magpies chased away the Wedge Tailed Eagles who don't seem to like confrontation!

Merimbula
I just love walking in the surrounds of Merimbula there is so many places to walk whether you want, bush walking ? Lake Walking ? or even roughing it a bit and follow the Coast line of the Pacific Ocean (Tasman Sea) where do they draw the line! You will probably enjoy it just as much just walking along the Village style shopping centre and the 'retiring' to one of the Clubs for afternoon tea ;)
There are many images on the Merimbula page that I hope will entice you to pay this spectacular part of Australia a visit!

Steavenson River - Marysville - Victoria
Steavenson River is one of the prettiest rivers flowing in Victoria, through plush green rain forest type vegetation!
When you take into account that it is only about 4km out from Marysville that you encounter the Steavenson Falls, well you are in for a treat:)
I love this river and never miss walking up to the Steavenson Falls whenever I get the opportunity!
I would love to share with you some of the images that I took on my last visit to the Steavenson River and the Steavenson Falls !

Walking by the River - Avon River
The Avon River in Gippsland is one of the prettiest little rivers you could wish to visit!
Stratford is a nice 140 km drive from Victorias capital city Melbourne!
The road is mostly double lane and in good condition!
The little township of Stratford is situated on the Avon and yes it has a Shakespeare Festival every year :)
Appropiately quoting Shakespeare (and who doesn't ) :
I have posted some images that will allow you to judge whether our Victorian Avon is as good as that other Avon river.

I would say that this Avon River is just as pretty as the Avon River in England!I have posted some images that will allow you to judge whether our Victorian Avon is as good as that other Avon river.
Walking by the river - The Tambo
One of my favorite rivers in Victoria is the Tambo River !
Starting high up in the Great Dividing Range it meanders down and empties into Lake King which is part of the Gippsland Lakes complex!
The most direct route from Melbourne is to drive East along the Princes Highway to Swan Reach ! which is a little Hamlet situated right on the Tambo River!
You can start your walk there but I prefer to come back about 5 km to a place called Johnsonville and turn left and down about 1 km !
There you will find a beautifully kept area with Boat Ramp, Electric BBQs, toilets and lovely grassed areas !
If you want to see images from my walks along the Tambo feel free to visit the Tambo River Page
